As NetOne celebrates 30 years of keeping Zimbabwe connected, the state-owned telecom is now using that same infrastructure to connect people to healthcare.
The company launched its “NetOne at 30 Medical Outreach and Telemedicine” programme in Chikomba West this week in partnership with ZimSmart Villages. The initiative brings doctors to communities remotely, using NetOne’s connectivity to bridge the distance to specialist care.
Speaking at the launch, NetOne Public Relations Manager Mr Ernest Magadzire said the milestone was about more than network towers.
“Technology is our core business, but its greatest value is realised when we use it to create solutions that matter. At NetOne, we believe connectivity should not simply connect devices and people; it must connect communities to opportunities, essential services and solutions that improve lives.”
For 30 years NetOne has built the network that keeps Zimbabwe talking. Now, through its Health and Care and Connecting Communities pillars, it is using that network for telemedicine consultations, digital health records and referrals.
The programme is aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which prioritises innovation and inclusive development. NetOne also applauded First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, Patron of Health, for her work in advancing community health.
“As we look ahead, our responsibility is to maximise that connectivity — using technology to support healthcare, education, agriculture, financial inclusion and other areas critical to national development,” Magadzire said.
