Zimbabwe’s second largest Telcos by subscriber base, NetOne Private ltd has extended its hearty congratulations to its line Ministry’s boss, Minister of ICT and Courier services, Hon Tatenda Annastancia Mavetera on her election as the new President and Chairperson of African ICT Ministers’ Council.
Having just won most improved Ministry for her exemplary service against the accountability framework introduced by President Mnangagwa in 2021 through performance contracts, Minister Mavetera did not stop there but got elected to the most powerful ICT body in Africa President and Chairperson of the Council of Ministers in charge of ICT (CMICT).
Mavetera was elected during the Eighth Session of CMICT on March 24, 2026.
Mavetera as President CMICT ie *President-elect Council of Ministers in charge of ICT*, an African intergovernmental body that brings together ministers responsible for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) from member states whose CMICT’s main functions will be:
*Setting regional ICT policy direction* – guiding Africa’s digital agenda and priorities.
*Coordinating ICT initiatives* – harmonizing digital projects and strategies among member states.
*Promoting digital transformation* – driving innovation, infrastructure development, and access to ICT services to boost economic growth, entrepreneurship, and citizen empowerment.
*Strengthening partnerships* – fostering collaboration between governments, private sector, and organizations like Smart Africa to advance shared digital goals and deliver tangible benefits to communities.
The buck now stops with her as continental boss, using her influence at CMICT to unify Africa’s ICT efforts, accelerate digital development, and turn policy ambitions into real impact for citizens and businesses across the continent.
In a statement released by NetOne, Zimbabwe’s second largest Mobile network Operator (MNO), said,
