The 6th Privacy Symposium Africa has kicked off in Harare, Zimbabwe, under the theme “Bridging Policy, Technology, and Societal Dynamics”, this three-day event brings together privacy experts, policymakers, business leaders, and individuals from across the continent to discuss the latest developments and challenges in the field of privacy and data protection.
The symposium is addressing intricacies surrounding data collection, processing, storage, and usage within electoral processes and it is focussing on unique challenges and opportunities each sector encounters concerning privacy protection.
The Deputy Director General for Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Zimbabwe Alfred Marisa in representation of the Director General Dr Gift Machengete said that,”,We are creating environment where technology serves our people at the same time protecting them hence we will continue awareness on data privacy while implementing solutions that are in line with our values”.
The symposium is holding master Classes which provides In-depth training and education on various privacy-related topics, including Election Data Governance and Data Protection for lawyers and panel discussions exploring the evolving landscape of privacy and data protection across various sectors, including Law, Finance, and Banking.
The symposium is organized by Unwanted Witness, a leading advocate for digital rights and privacy in Africa.
