President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Zimbabwe’s health sector, emphasizing the urgent need to expand access to quality, affordable and comprehensive healthcare services across the country.
Speaking at the 391st Ordinary Session of the Politburo, President Mnangagwa said government remains focused on building resilient public health institutions backed by modern infrastructure, increased domestic funding and innovation.
“We are resolute in our quest to increase robust public health institutions which have modern infrastructure” said Mnangagwa.
He stressed that improving healthcare delivery is central to national development and the overall well-being of citizens.
Mnangagwa  highlighted ongoing efforts to rehabilitate health facilities nationwide, noting that upgrading infrastructure and equipment is critical to ensuring efficient service delivery.
He added that the Second Republic is prioritising local production of medicines and medical supplies as part of broader efforts to reduce costs and strengthen the country’s health system.
President Mnangagwa also pointed to recent progress made through partnerships and resource mobilisation initiatives, including the refurbishment of key institutions.
He also highlighted his recent engagement at Ingutsheni Central Hospital.
“I was pleased to officiate at the Ingutsheni Central Hospital Fundraising Initiative last week, where a fundraising drive was launched to revamp the country’s largest mental health facility” said Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa also said the initiative demonstrated the importance of collective action in addressing gaps within the health sector, particularly in specialised areas such as mental health care, which have long faced underinvestment.
President Mnangagwa urged government officials to take a more active role in monitoring the condition of public health institutions, stressing that accountability and oversight are essential to sustaining progress.
“I call upon the leadership of the party to always interest themselves in the state of these and other facilities which are crucial for the wellness and wellbeing of our people,” said Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa maintained that government will continue scaling up interventions aimed at transforming the sector, as Zimbabwe pushes towards universal health coverage and a more robust, self-sufficient health system.
