Zimbabwe’s Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has announced a price reduction for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in both US dollars and local currency for August 2025. According to Zera, the new price is set at $1.51 per kilogram, down from $1.57. In local currency, the price has decreased to ZWG40.56 per kilogram from ZWG42.31.
“These are the LPG prices for August 2025 calculated in line with the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations of 2021,” Zera stated. The authority emphasized that operators must clearly display the rates at retail outlets, although retailers can charge lower prices if they benefit from trading advantages.
Zera’s 2024 Annual Performance Report noted that LPG consumption reached 77 million kilograms last year, supported by 622 licensed retail sites that achieved a 93.7% compliance rate. “The authority noted that compliance has improved due to a ban on smuggled cylinders, though illegal vending remains a persistent challenge,” the report highlighted.
Zera also expressed concerns about the increasing number of accidents related to mishandling gas and failure to follow safety procedures and the regulator urged continued operator training and public education to ensure the safe use of LPG.
