NetOne is turning 30, and the company says the next 30 years will be about doing more than just providing network coverage.
The mobile operator has partnered with ZimSmart Villages to launch a telemedicine and medical outreach programme in Chikomba West, as part of its anniversary celebrations. The goal: use existing telecoms infrastructure to deliver essential services where they are needed most.
“Technology is our core business, but its greatest value is realised when we use it to create solutions that matter,” said NetOne PR Manager Mr Ernest Magadzire during the launch.
He said NetOne’s 30th anniversary is a chance to reaffirm its role as a development partner, not just a service provider. The company’s focus areas now include healthcare, education, agriculture and financial inclusion.
Through telemedicine, geographical barriers are being broken down. Patients in remote areas can access specialist expertise without the cost and time of travel. The ZimSmart Villages partnership ensures that technology, health professionals and community structures work together.
The project is aligned with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, and NetOne also commended First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa for championing health initiatives nationwide.
“For 30 years, we have built and expanded the infrastructure that keeps Zimbabwe connected,” Magadzire said. “The next chapter is about connecting people to possibilities.”
With its Health and Care and Connecting Communities pillars, NetOne says it is proving that connectivity can be a tool for national transformation.
