The United States celebrated 250 years of independence in Zimbabwe on Friday, with US Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Amb. Pamela Tremont, hosting a “Freedom 250” event at the Victoria Falls Rainbow Theater.
The celebration brought together government officials, business leaders, and community representatives to mark America’s semiquincentennial and highlight deepening U.S.-Zimbabwe cooperation in tourism and trade.
In remarks at the event, Amb. Tremont said the gathering reflected shared values between the two nations.
“It is a shared spirit of ubuntu that crosses oceans that keeps our friendship growing,” Amb. Tremont said. “Thank you, Victoria Falls, for the incredible warm welcome!”
Focus On Tourism and Trade through the “Freedom 250” celebration was themed around freedom, opportunity, and partnership. Organizers said the choice of Victoria Falls was deliberate to showcase Zimbabwe’s premier tourism destination and growing business links with the US.
Attendees included local government representatives and private sector players from the hospitality, tourism, and trade sectors.
Decorations at the Rainbow Theater featured US Independence Day colors of red, white and blue, with a “Freedom 250” logo displayed.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties is paramount as US officials said the event was part of broader efforts to expand economic engagement with Zimbabwe, particularly in tourism, investment, and cultural exchange.
Zimbabwe and the US marked 250 years since the signing of the American Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
The embassy concluded with gratitude to the Victoria Falls community for hosting.

As the US looks to its next 250 years, diplomats said Victoria Falls provided the perfect backdrop to celebrate a friendship grounded in shared values and growing economic opportunity.
