Ward 20, Nyanga – A new chapter of sustainable rural development is unfolding in Ward 20 following the continued investment by Nyanga Renewable Energy, whose transformative initiatives are improving lives through clean energy generation, healthcare infrastructure, education support and local employment.
The landmark occasion brought together Government officials, traditional leaders, community members and development partners to celebrate the tangible impact of the company’s investment in the ward, including the construction of a modern community clinic, electrification of schools, employment creation and the successful commissioning of a hydro power plant on the Gairezi River, which is now generating electricity for Zimbabwe’s national grid.
Speaking on behalf of the Member of Parliament for Nyanga South, Honourable Supa Mandiwanzira, who was unable to attend the event, Ward 20 Councillor Ernest Magadzire commended Nyanga Renewable Energy for demonstrating that responsible private sector investment can become a catalyst for inclusive rural development.
Councillor Magadzire said the company’s investment had become a source of hope for thousands of residents and reflected the importance of strong partnerships between Government, the private sector and local communities.
“Today we celebrate more than infrastructure; we celebrate opportunity, dignity and a brighter future for our people. The construction of this clinic means healthcare services are now closer to our communities. The employment opportunities created have strengthened household incomes, while the electrification of our schools is opening new doors for quality education. These are investments that will benefit generations to come.”
He further acknowledged the visionary leadership of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Comrade Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, whose development philosophy of ‘leaving no one and no place behind’ continues to inspire inclusive growth and strategic investments across the country.
Councillor Magadzire noted that the developments taking place in Ward 20 are fully aligned with the aspirations of Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy through infrastructure development, rural industrialisation, energy security, improved healthcare and sustainable economic empowerment.
He also reaffirmed the community’s commitment to working closely with investors, emphasising that meaningful development is achieved through collaboration, trust and shared responsibility.
Delivering his remarks, Nyanga Renewable Energy Director, Mr. McKenzie, thanked the people of Ward 20 for their unwavering support, cooperation and partnership throughout the implementation of the projects.
He said the success of the company’s investment had been made possible by the positive relationship it had built with the local community and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.
“Development can only succeed where communities and investors work together. We sincerely appreciate the cooperation we have received from the people of Ward 20 and their leadership. Our commitment extends beyond electricity generation—we are committed to creating lasting social and economic value for the communities that host our operations.”
Mr. McKenzie highlighted that the hydroelectric power station constructed along the Gairezi River is now feeding clean, renewable electricity into Zimbabwe’s national grid, contributing towards national energy security while supporting the country’s transition to sustainable energy solutions.
Traditional leadership also welcomed the developments.
Speaking during the ceremony, Village Head Nyamkafata expressed gratitude for the respectful relationship that Nyanga Renewable Energy has maintained with the local community.
He applauded the company for honouring its social responsibility commitments through investments that directly improve the quality of life of local residents.
“Our community has witnessed genuine development. We appreciate the respect shown to our people and our traditional leadership. We encourage this spirit of partnership to continue so that future generations may also benefit.”
The education sector also acknowledged the positive impact of the investment.
The Headmistress of Gairezi Primary School thanked Nyanga Renewable Energy for electrifying the school, describing the development as a game changer for both learners and teachers.
She said access to electricity will enhance teaching and learning, improve administrative efficiency and expose learners to digital learning opportunities that were previously beyond reach.
The event served as a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when Government, local leadership, traditional authorities, communities and the private sector work together towards a shared vision of sustainable development.
As Ward 20 continues to embrace new opportunities, stakeholders expressed confidence that the partnership with Nyanga Renewable Energy will continue to unlock further investments that improve livelihoods, stimulate local economic growth and strengthen social infrastructure.
For Councillor Ernest Magadzire, who represented Honourable Supa Mandiwanzira at the occasion, the event reaffirmed the importance of responsive local leadership and continuous stakeholder engagement in accelerating development at community level.
The celebrations concluded with renewed optimism that Ward 20 is steadily positioning itself as a model for sustainable rural transformation—where clean energy, quality healthcare, improved education, employment creation and strategic partnerships are empowering communities and contributing meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030.
