Zimbabwe Vying For Universal Postal Union Council Seat

Zimbabwe is making a strong push for a seat on the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Council of Administration at the ongoing 28th UPU Congress in Dubai, where it has pledged to be a voice for Africa’s development and innovation in the global postal sector.

Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera said in a statement on her official Facebook page that Zimbabwe’s delegation is “energised and deeply engaged” in Dubai as discussions with fellow member states continue.

“We are honoured to lead Zimbabwe’s bid for a seat on the UPU Council of Administration. We have had fruitful engagements with member states, united by a shared vision for a modern, innovative and inclusive global postal network,” she said.

If elected, Zimbabwe has committed to advancing three key priorities: championing Africa’s development through stronger collaboration, promoting technology-driven solutions for sustainable postal services, and reinforcing the bonds that connect the global postal network.

With over 40 years of membership in the UPU and hosting the regional office in Harare, Zimbabwe says it brings “experience, passion, and a fresh perspective” to the global table.

The UPU Council of Administration is composed of 41 countries, elected from the 192 member states. Zimbabwe is now banking on its track record and vision to secure a place in the council.
