Mvurwi has become the centre of Zimbabwe today as nearly 100,000 youths and citizens converge for the inaugural Munhumutapa Day national commemorations.
Held in Mashonaland Central, the celebrations include the Munhumutapa Half Marathon, youth empowerment expos, and hard-hitting programs addressing substance abuse — a key focus of this year’s theme.
ZANU PF Youth League officials said the project, first piloted in Masvingo and now in all 10 provinces, is about “empowering young people with land, skills and heritage.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is presiding over the event on his 84th birthday, with addresses expected on youth empowerment, heritage preservation and community development.
Under Statutory Instrument 148 of 2026, September 15 is now a permanent fixture, linking pre-colonial pride of the Mutapa Empire to modern youth action.
From marathon tracks to drug awareness tents, Mvurwi is today showing what Munhumutapa Day stands for: heritage in motion.
