President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies, Hardy Pemhiwa announced that Econet AI is now an official cloud partner of Cassava, a move that brings NVIDIA’s advanced artificial intelligence computing capabilities directly to Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the Econet Al Launch Programme , Pemhiwa said the partnership certifies Econet AI as an authorised operator of NVIDIA AI compute infrastructure with Cassava currently the only NVIDIA cloud partner on the African continent.
“NVIDIA is the world’s leading chip maker with their GPUs,” he said. “An NVIDIA cloud partner is authorised to sell NVIDIA’s most powerful AI compute capabilities to enterprises and governments. Cassava Technologies holds that status for Africa.”
He said the agreement extends those capabilities into the local market.
“Today, Econet AI becomes our partner to bring that capability to Zimbabwean businesses, to the Zimbabwean government, and to Zimbabwean citizens.”
Pemhiwa also said the partnership enables local organisations to train artificial intelligence models and run large-scale data workloads within Zimbabwe, reducing reliance on offshore infrastructure and strengthening the country’s control over its digital systems.
He described artificial intelligence as a transformative force already reshaping economies. “The question is not, is it coming for you? It has already arrived,” he said. “The question is, will you make a structural response or an operational response?”
He linked the development to Zimbabwe’s national artificial intelligence strategy, describing it as a structural policy choice aimed at driving economic growth, institutional capability and responsible governance.
- “This partnership means that trust now extends into the era of artificial intelligence,” Pemhiwa said. “Because Zimbabwe has made a structural choice , it will not watch from the sidelines.”
