Zimbabwe has from January 2023 to January 2024 recorded a significant rise in internet users.
The development has been necessitated by improved service delivery by most of the country’s telecommunications players among them Econet, NetOne, Telecel just to name a few.

Econet alongside other Telcos, have contributed a significant 5,8 million Zimbabweans on the internet. This represents a 32,6% internet penetration rate the country has had confirming 2,2 % internet Users increase of exactly 115 000 between January last year and January this year.

“According to the Digital data report portal for Zimbabwe, the digital landscape in Zimbabwe has seen significant growth, with 5.48 million internet users recorded in January 2024. This represents a 32,6% internet penetration rate among the total population,” Liquid Regional Chief Executive Officer Wellington Makamure said.

“Notably, between January 2023 and January 2024, the number of internet users increased by 115 000 (a 2,2% rise).”

Makamure confirmed these statistics at a recent telecom’s indaba, where the Liquid Regional Chief Executive Officer said Zimbabwean businesses will also reap the benefits of having their strategic partnership with international acclaimed Google.

Makamure said strategic partnership with Google Cloud will also be a boost for local firms.

More users are likely to flood the internet platform out of 17 million Zimbabweans in the country because of the marriage between Liquid and Google Cloud Platform, which is offered by multinational firm, Google, which will also offer Zimbabwe a suite of cloud computing services that provides a series of modular cloud services including computing, data storage, data analytics and machine learning, alongside a set of management tools.
