The TelOne Center for Learning recently hosted its 9th graduation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey of academic excellence and skill development. This year, a total of 701 graduates proudly received their qualifications, with 336 being women and 365 men, signaling a near 50/50 gender distribution (48% female and 52% male). Notably, the statistics reflect a growing interest among women in pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields—a development worth celebrating.
Traditionally male-dominated fields such as telecommunications engineering, software engineering, and data science have seen a notable rise in female participation. In the Diploma in Telecommunications Engineering program, 92 women graduated compared to 148 men, achieving a female-to-male ratio of 38%. Similarly, women accounted for 43% of the graduates in Software Engineering and 41% in Computer Networking. These figures highlight the narrowing gender gap and the increasing determination of women to excel in these technical disciplines.
In fields like Data Science and Digital Marketing, women outnumbered men significantly. For the Diploma in Digital Marketing, an impressive 73% of the graduates were female, while in Data Science, women made up 47% of the cohort. These numbers underscore how women are not only entering STEM fields but are thriving and leading in certain areas.
The Postgraduate Diploma programs, particularly in Business Analytics and Digital Marketing, further highlight the strides women are making in advanced technical qualifications. For instance, women constituted 67% of the graduates in the Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing and achieved gender parity (50/50) in Business Analytics. Overall, the female-to-male ratio of 48/52 across all programs is a testament to the inclusive academic environment fostered by the TelOne Center for Learning. The institution has clearly succeeded in creating pathways for women to build careers in STEM fields, traditionally seen as male-dominated.
This year’s graduation ceremony is more than a celebration of academic achievements; it is a reflection of a transformative trend in education and workforce development. The TelOne Center for Learning is playing a pivotal role in shaping an equitable future where both women and men contribute equally to technological advancements and innovation. As the institution continues to equip students with industry-relevant skills, it is evident that more women are ready to break barriers, pursue their passions, and redefine the STEM landscape.
The achievements of these graduates not only signify personal success but also inspire the next generation of students—particularly young women—to aim high and embrace STEM opportunities with confidence. Congratulations to the class of 2024 for their remarkable accomplishments!
