Mavetera To Engage Mthuli On Devices Tax

Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services, Dr Tatenda Mavetera has promised to engage the Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube to cut devices tax and any other within her ministry’s reach.

Dr Mavetera did not mince her words but made it clear that some of these taxes needed the Finance Minister’s assent.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with TechnoMag CEO Toneo Rutsito, the Minister of ICT said this was imperative in the drive to improve service delivery in the Telcos sector.

Quizzed on tax rebates, Dr Mavetera said, “About heavily taxed on taxation I cannot comment on that but can talk about engaging the Ministry of Finance on certain taxations like the device taxes, you find it’s a culmination of many things. It involves infrastructure and data,” said Mavetera.

Mavetera added, “We will lead the conversation speak with the Ministry of Finance and come up with a win-win situation. We need to speak with them and also come up with policies. We need to engage the Ministry of Finance and also the Ministry of Energy.”

Coaxed to comment on whether the telecoms industry in Zimbabwe was offering high-priced services, Dr Mavetera had this to say; “it’s you who is saying they are high and I’m not saying that…..All we need is engage in line with what the Telcos operators are saying.”
