Africom Boss Rudo Mudavanhu Announces Emotional Exit

Africom CEO Rudo Mudavanhu announced her departure from the organization , the news that left the audience in an emotional state during lCT Awards which were held on Thursday in Harare.

She was awarded with Lifetime Achievement Award and upon receiving her award she expressed her gratitude to the Africom family and reflected on her time at the company, highlighting the accomplishments and challenges she faced during her tenure.

In her emotional speech she said, “I stand before you today, humbled and grateful, as I receive this Lifetime Achievement Award.

As I celebrate my birthday this year, I have been reflecting on my journey and testing the structures I have built, to see if they can exist without me. It’s been a deliberate effort to ensure sustainability and growth.

I am thrilled to share that I have been privileged to celebrate my birthday with the President on September 15th and I made a personal commitment to transition out of the industry by September 15th next year”.

She added that,” Receiving this award while I am still active in the industry is a tremendous honor and I am grateful for the recognition, and I’m proud of the journey I’ve walked.

As I look around this room l am reminded of the incredible people I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years. I’ve learned that problems are not always bad; they often create opportunities for solutions, I am standing here today because of the challenges I’ve faced and I want to express my deepest gratitude to my team, industry partners, and colleagues. Your support, guidance, and camaraderie have been invaluable. I’m also thankful for the ministry and regulator’s support throughout my career.

To my new minister, I’m excited to see a young and dynamic leader taking the reins. The industry is on the cusp of explosive growth, with advancements in digital technology, AI, cybersecurity, and more. I have no doubt that you will take the industry to new heights”.

Rudo Mudavanhu has been with Africom for more than 20 years and having joined the company as a front officer, she has made a tremendous journey running Africom against all odds and industry turbulence, as a female led organization.

The chief executive officer confirmed her final plans to leave the organizations she nurtured over years, while new technology and connectivity emerged posing great sustainability challenges against the ISP, she held on tight from a traditional wireless services provider to a converged player.

She joined Africom as a front office and rose through ranks to lead Marketing and eventually became Chief Commercial Officer for Africom. She led the rebranding of the company when Africom introduced it’s diversified services and have been very instrumental in the growth trajectory of the company.

She worked hard for establishment of Africom Continental and also expansion of Africom business into the region.

Due to her dedication to work, loyalty and hardwork she rose to become the MD of Africom thereby steering the ship to become competitive and a force to reckon with in the Telecommunication Industry.

At a time when most would think Africom would pack up, against well funded giants and high demand for capital expenditure, it was a miracle the organization withered the storm.
