Address Connectivity, Drop Calls, Data Diminishing Issues – Mavetera

Honourable Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services, Dr Tatenda Mavetera has challenged telecoms operators to stop harassing their clients and quickly bring to an end the poor service delivery that has been bedevilling the industry of late.

Hon Mavetera said this while addressing Telecommunications policy makers, ICT industry stakeholders, Telecom professionals and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) who attended the Zimbabwe Annual Telecommunications and Exhibition 2024 recently.

She said service providers should start offering good effective services that are fair to the consumers of the products and services.

“We cannot access this stratum of advancement while we have in our midst poor connectivity punctuated with dropped calls and data balances that diminish with no explanations. Let us all play our ethical roles in building a telecommunications industry founded on fairness to the consumers,” said the Minister.

Other tech experts read from Hon Mavetera’s script arguing that apart from poor service delivery, Econet and NetOne were expensive. ZOL and TelOne lines are not readily available on the market, hence clients have to bear the brunt of getting them on the black market while Dandemutande and Telcos seem to specifically focus on specific customer segments.

Many customers that subscribe to local telcos praised Minister Mavetera not necessarily naming and shaming local operators or their regulator, the Postal Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), but instead that they hopefully toe the line and stop the issue of network that drops calls and diminishes data wantonly.
