Zimbabwe is geared up to host this year’s edition of the International Girls in Information Communication Technology (ICT) Day which will be held on Thursday in Victoria Falls.

The event will be held under the theme “Digital Skills for Life” and will be hosted as part of the Transform Africa Summit 2023, in coordination and collaboration with the Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) and Smart Africa.

The global celebration will include a series of events that will run during the day as part of the summit and will address different topics related to Digital Skills that include role models, education, mentorship, and youth participation.

The events build onto the various initiatives of the ITU that not only seek to achieve digital gender equality but also would address the importance of education and connectivity. Every year, ITU and its partners work together to inspire and encourage girls to pursue a future in ICTs towards bridging the gender digital divide. The aim is to encourage young women and girls to pursue their studies and careers in science, engineering, technology, mathematics, and other fields and help them achieve their dreams.

In an interview from Victoria Falls yesterday, Potraz Head Marketing and International Relations Mrs Sibo Muteyiwa said all is set to host the event.

“A time has come for the world to demonstrate that young girls and women need to be part of the digital and technological revolution as we gather together on April 27 at Elephant Hills Hotel to commemorate the Global Girls in ICT Day 2023. This day was established by the ITU to create a global environment that empowers and encourages young women and girls to consider careers in the growing field of ICT. Join us physically and virtually,” said Mrs Muteyiwa.
