ZEC Notifies Mudzi & Mutoko RDC Vacancies Following Party-List Resignations

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Chief Elections Officer (CEO) Utoile Silaigwana has notified the Electorate of a vacancy for Mudzi Rural District Council RDC and Mutoko Rural District Council RDC following party-list resignations.

Speaking exclusively to TechnoMag the ZEC CEO Utoile Silaigwana told this journalist that, “those who resigned were elected under the Proportional Representation of the local authority under Citizens Coalition for Change.”

In an exclusive revelation to TechnoMag, the ZEC CEO stated that, “Whereas it is provided in terms of section 278 of the Constitution that the seat of a local authority becomes vacant in the circumstances set out in section 129 as if he or she were a member of Parliament.

“And where as it is provided that upon being notified of a vacancy in terms of sub section (1) of section 121 of the Electoral Act, [Chapter 2:13] the commission shall publish a notice in accordance with section 39 (4).

“NOW therefore the public is hereby notified that the Commission has received notifications in writing , of party list vacancies for the Mudzi and Mutoko Rural District Councils due to the resignation of Dzanya Alleta and Muchemwa Urita from the respective local authorities.
