Zimbabwe Gears Up For The Financial Markets Indaba To Be Hosted By Emergent Research

At a when time when the Zimbabwean economy is going through under very painful uncertainties, a new lease of life is expected to down upon the local business fraternity with the Government, top business leaders across the region and other stakeholders all teaming up with Emergent Research to hold the first ever Financial Markets Indaba tipped to provide sound financial solutions for the local players.The financial markets expert group will hold the inaugural Financial Markets Indaba on the 30th of June 2016 in Harare at Meikles Hotel.

The star studded event will be graced by top business leaders from in and outside Zimbabwe to provide the much needed insight on financial markets. We must all applaud Emergent Research’s efforts in pioneering such a collective approach under the expertly gathered school of thought which is expected to provide resolute ideas on the viability of local businesses in Zimbabwe’s tough economic conditions. Below is the galaxy of stars who will be speaking at the Indaba, talking from experience on how they have managed to lead their respective organizations to stardom.

DOUGLAS HOTO

CEO, First Mutual Holdings

Douglas Hoto is an accomplished business leader and currently holds the reins at First Mutual Holdings Limited as Group Chief Executive Officer. He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Mathematics (UZ); is a qualified Actuary with more than 22 years’ experience in the finance industry.

TAFADZWA CHINAMO

CEO, Securities and Exchange Commission

Tafadzwa is an accomplished investments analyst and manager with expertise and experience in capital markets spanning 22 years. He began his career in 1993 with the then Zimbabwe Development Bank (Zimbabwe Infrastructural Development Bank) as a Graduate Trainee. Over the years he worked for various leading financial institutions before taking on the job of CEO at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

GEORGE GUVAMATANGA

Managing Director, Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe

Mr. George T. Guvamatanga has served as Managing Director, Executive Director of Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe Limited since January 1, 2008. He is a member of the Board Credit Committee and of the Human Resources and Nominations Committee of the Company. Mr. Guvamatanga has over 17 years’ experience in the banking sector.

CEO, FinMark

Dr Ramsamy is the CEO of FinMark Trust. He was previously the Executive Secretary of SADC and the CEO of the Economic Development Board of Madagascar. Before joining FinMark Trust he worked at the Southern Africa Trust as Head of the Business for Development (B4D) Pathfinder. With a strong background in regional integration and development economics, Dr Ramsamy has extensive knowledge and experience in business and development, as well as in international relations. He has provided policy and strategic advice to both the private and public sectors in the SADC region.

GERALD GONDO

With a wealth of frontline investment management experience in Africa, Gerald is the Principal of RisCura Zimbabwe. Starting his career as a private equity investment professional in South Africa he later went on to serve as Regional Investment Manager for a private equity fund of funds within the Sub-Saharan Africa region. Gerald has also served as Credit Analyst for a highly-rated specialist institutional fixed income boutique, where he was responsible for credit analysis for corporate credit and securitization issuances within South Africa. His passion to have first-hand experience in investing in Africa led him to join a leading pan-African asset manager where he had dual responsibility of being lead analyst on listed equities in Egypt, Morocco, Zambia and Mauritius whilst also building the fixed income capability of the asset manager in Zimbabwe. Gerald is also a founding partner of a specialist Investment Advisory and Investment Management business, domiciled in Mauritius. Studying the pending reform to the capital markets regulatory environment within Zimbabwe, Gerald identified the need for an independent investment advisory capability with proven credentials in advising institutional investors, leading to the establishment of RisCura Zimbabwe.

Itai has enjoyed several years of diverse banking and investments management experience. In 2001, he started his stockbroking career with Momentum Stockbrokers before joining Zimnat Asset Management as an Investments Analyst in 2002. In 2003, Itai Joined Kingdom Stockbrokers as an Equities Dealer until 2005 when he joined ZABG Stockbrokers as one of the founding members, and later that year, acquired his stockbroking license. Itai moved to join Premier Banking Corporation in February 2006, where he worked as Chief Investments officer and later as Head of the Financial Markets Division. He joined MMC Capital in February 2008 as one of the founding directors. He is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter and a member of the CFA South Africa Society.

GEORGE MANYERE

Mr. George Manyere has been involved in all phases of Brainworks development since its founding in 2011. He has 12 years of emerging markets (Africa) experience and 19 years investment banking experience including 5 years at IFC, and invested $600+ million equity + debt in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Manyere sits on several boards and holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science and an Honours in Accounting Science from the University of South Africa.

BUSISA MOYO

CEO, United Refineries

Busisa Moyo is the current President of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) and CEO of United Refineries the second largest cooking oil manufacturer in Zimbabwe. A seasoned business executive and entrepreneur, Busisa Moyo was the Senior Manager responsible for investments and monitoring at TA Holdings Limited, a company listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. In this role, Mr. Moyo was involved in Corporate Finance and Strategy which included listings, financial re-engineering, business acquisitions, company divestments and deal structuring in the hotels, manufacturing and insurance sectors. Busisa holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science Degree (BCompt) from the University of South Africa and completed his articles with Deloitte and Touche in 1999. He holds a Global Executive MBA from IESE Business School (Spain) and has also attended executive education on mergers and acquisitions at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business (Chicago – USA)

TAKUNDA CHINGONZO

Takunda Chingonzo is the co-founder of Neolab Technology, an innovative company more commonly referred as the “Start-up factory” that recruits and trains university students and helps them work in teams to turn disruptive ideas into sustainable start-ups. Currently working with 24 start-ups, Takunda’s vision is to help build 100 start-ups in and around Africa by the year 2020, he was recently featured on the Forbes Africa 30 under 30 list titled: Tomorrow’s billionaires’ for the work that he is doing. From interviewing president Obama at the US Africa Summit, to speaking at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit and the Global Philanthropy Forum, Takunda passionately articulates his desire to see a connected Africa leveraging on technology built by Africans for Africans.
