Zimbabwe active mobile subscriptions have increased by 1.3% to record 12,908,992 from 12,748,551 recorded in the third quarter of 2018,the Potraz 4th Quarter 2018 Sector Performance Report has revealed.
Of the 12.9 million subscriptions, NetOne recorded a significant growth of 5.2%from 3.1 million to 3.3 million in the 4th Quarter. Econet registered a 1.9% growth from 8.4 million subscribers to 8.6 million by December 2018. Telecel active mobile subscriptions declined by 12.3% from 1.3 million subscribers down to 1.1 million.
However, according to an annual comparison by the Potraz 4th Quarter 2018 Sector Performance Report released today, the total active mobile subscriptions declined by 8.4% to reach 12,908,992 from 14,092,104 recorded in 2017.
Zimbabwe mobile penetration rate has declined by 9.6% to reach 93.1% from 102.7 percent recorded in the previous year,
The mobile penetration rate has declined in line with the decline in active mobile subscriptions, as noted earlier where Telecel lost 12.3% of its subscribers.
