Zim Govt Commits To Smart Cities

Government has committed to invest in the modernisation of cities in line with the Sustainable Development Goal number 11.

In a speech read on his behalf at a Smart Cities Conference in Harare today, Local Government minister July Moyo said government and the private sector must embrace technology to modernise our cities.

“The professionals in this sector both Government and private sector have to understand that technology is critical in the concert of smart cities.
Geographical Information Systems play an import role. As we move towards urban renewal, Government cannot shy away from technology,” he said.

He added that an example of a typical smart city is the new Parliament being developed in Mount Hampden, located 20 kilometres outside Harare.
He, however, called upon the private sector to partner with Government in bridging the technological gap.
