So what makes a computer a super gaming machine? There are a few specifications that one will look for but today TechnoMag looks at probably the most important component and that is the graphics card.
According to PC Gamer, the CPU may be the brain of your PC, but when it comes to gaming, the graphics card is the beating heart that pumps pixels out of your obelisk of a tower and into your monitor.
What is the best graphics card out there? The best graphics card isn’t normally the fastest graphics card. That honor or title goes to the new Titan X, which outperforms the GTX 1080 by 20-25 percent. Not only does it outperform, it also comes at a cheaper price.
Similarly, the best card isn’t the least expensive option, because while there are cards (like the RX 470 and GTX 1060) that deliver great value, performance is still a factor. The best graphics card is the one that can strike a balance between high performance and a reasonable price.
Nvidia has done it again. Nvidia, according to The Vergerecently announced Max-Q, which is a new design approach that’s intended to enable thin, light and quiet laptops with strong gaming performance. The company says that the Max-Q spec can cut the power consumption of a GTX 1080 in half, for example, allowing it to be used in an ultraportable notebook… That is simply impressive.
Nvidia is working from the principle that you get diminishing returns at some point when increasing performance capability and Max-Q software figures out the optimal point to target. That GTX 1080 with half the power consumption is the exact same chip you’d find in a bulky gaming laptop today, but Nvidia says it should achieve about 90 percent of the performance in a thin and light design. Each Max-Q laptop requires the manufacturer to work closely with Nvidia on thermal and acoustic design to eke out extra efficiencies wherever possible.
Several manufacturers announced Max-Q designs and guess the one that stands out… You guessed right, the Asus Zephyrus. The Zephyrus is a good example of how OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) are working with Nvidia to create more efficient designs. The Zephyrus has a bidirectional thermal system on its edges and above the keyboard, and the rear of the laptop actually widens for extra airflow when you open the lid.
Gaming laptops are increasing in popularity, despite their usual bulk and weight. Now that you have been informed, choose the right machine with the right graphics for your gaming experience.
