What is An SSD "Hard Drive"

You have heard or seen computer sales ads mentioning SSD on product description and always wonder “Wat da hek z dat!” Actually it’s no physics but just a slight difference from the traditional Hard Drive Disk (HDD) that you know.
This technology has been in Zimbabwe as well for a long time and most shops in Harare do sell SSDs in various sizez though still pricey.
SSD is an acronym that stands for solid state drive. The architecture of the SSD is comprised of flash memory units attached on a board with various other components to enable is function.

In simple terms we can describe this device as a giant flash drive. In addition to this it is non-volatile flash memory which simply means even if it is turned off it does not forget.
Inside the heart of the drive is a controller which is just like a processor and determines the read and write speeds with the fastest reaching speeds of 1800Mb/second.
The drive comes in sizes similar to those of HDD thus 2.5” or 3.5” and has a standard SATA port which makes it compatible with any modern computer both Mac and Windows.
Yelling descriptions of an SSD is valueless if it’s not compared with the HDD to understand why even use the drive.
SSD Goodies over HDD
When it comes to storage space SSD rules the game as it is currently at a maximum of 4TB though it’s however rare and expensive compared to the HDD which has a maximum of HDD.
Regardless of its prestige in storage capacity it has been rumored that the drive does not last long as flash memory can easily get exhausted from massive read and write which definitely is not true because the predicted life span for the drive is 200years, yes 2 centuries.
The SSD has got killer speed “Too FAST Too FURIOUS” so we can say, and it can boot a computer in seconds, launches applications fast, renders projects for video makers quickly. As for the HDD it is not as fast considering its makeup which is highly mechanical.
Fragmentation is a disorganized arrangement in of writing data on the magnetic platters inside the hard drive which makes it difficult for the HDD to quickly read information. This is however inexistent with in the SSD because it does not care where data is stored when reading. SSDs are inherently faster.
An SSD has no moving parts, so it is more likely to keep your data safe in the event that you drop your laptop bag or your system is shaken about by an earthquake while it’s operating. Most hard drives park their read/write heads when the system is off, but they are flying over the drive platter at hundreds of miles an hour when they are in operation. Besides, even parking brakes have limits. If you’re rough on your equipment, an SSD is recommended.
The SSD is the way to go for is rugged and super-fast. Talking of speed there are various factors that will definitely certify a high speed experience with the SSD, the processor, ram and graphic card has to be of a higher value.
