As TelOne Converges, A Prepaid Landline Makes Sense.

For years  now, TelOne has been talking about convergence and convergence , while it may not come as a surprise that many Zimbabweans may not have grasped what the telecommunications player isreally doing.

It was a long time coming for the once fixed telephone service provider which is still driving towards combining traditional land lines, available copper and fibre internet services with the satellite based communication to create a fully converged network.

While many still demand higher speeds  over the ADSL copper cables running across residential and  offices, the current convergence, and digitizations on going is set to have high speed enabled networks to connect homes and business online.

However what really caught our attention is pre-paying the landline, which in most cases, is a nightmare for most households as they find it very difficult to mantain a runaway bill caused one or two family members who never give up the conversation, especially when noone is watching.

TelOne Runhare Building

Digitisation of the analogue landline continues to open up more opportunities, which ofcpourse they should have done years back, but like the old adage says , better late than never.

Knowing that the landline will not be another potential runaway bill, brings more control and peace of mind to landline owners, hopefully this small change will impact greatly in getting more subscribers for TelOne.

The landline itself has moved to Internet Channels as they bring in their Voiceover Internet Protocol, popularity known as VoIP, a much more cheaper and affordable way tome voice calls over the intent without hitting through the  telephone exchange switches.

The VoIP service, which is mainly targeting Fibre to The Home (FTTH) customers, small to medium enterprises, government departments and big corporates will have the prefix 08688 and will come absolutely free for on-net calls.

Interestingly, TelOne utilises VPN to connect between remote sites at no cost. The charges for this VPN is fixed monthly and does not fluctuate while with other providers, subscribers are charged for data traffic consumed plus the actual voice usage, hence they are billed for both Data and Voice for a single call.
