Seacom Cable Restored after Fire Damage

Last week we reported on the Seacom cable going down after Fire Damage and their official post stating that were having to run on “alternative WACS capacity” after losing signal.

Egyptian engineers moved quickly to repair fire damage to the Seacom undersea broadband cable yesterday, which led to South African Internet provider MWeb complaining of link failure.

Seacom reported yesterday afternoon they had “restored their services across Egypt” and promised to “continue to monitor the situation”.

Seacom confirmed the outage at 11.59 GMT and had a repair team on the site by 14.51 GMT.

The Seacom cable is 17,000km in length and connects South Africa and Eastern Africa with Europe and Southern Asia.
