RIO-SET Expo 2017 Calls for Papers

The Ministry of Research and Intellectual Outputs- Science, Engineering and Technology (RIO-SET), has made the first call for papers from interested researchers on ICTs for Sustainable Development for the seventh edition of the RIO-SET Expo to be held in Masvingo at the Great Zimbabwe University in September.

RIOSET Expo is an  initiative by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development that was set up to showcase the best research and intellectual work by Zimbabweans at home and the diaspora.

In a statement, the Ministry said the expo seeks to harness the very best of research and intellectual work by Zimbabweans for national development.

Themed “Cultural diversity in research and innovation for sustainable”, the Expo will tackle various topics.


“The Expo will address a range of important topics under various sub-themes. Plenary speakers will include some of the country’s leading luminaries in various disciplines, as well as numerous paper, workshop and poster presentations by researchers,” said the ministry.

Added the ministry, “It will bring together Zimbabweans from all disciplines to share latest research findings and brainstorm new research ideas across disciplines, The expo is a unique platform fro academics, professionals, students, industrialists, investors and entrepreneurs with cross disciplinary interests to meet and interact with each other. We are therefore inviting papers on sub-themes that will deal with issues around this year’s theme. “

“Researchers wishing to submit papers for RIO-SET Expo 2017 are invited to do so. The deadline for submission of abstracts is Friday the 3rd of March 2017.

“Authors with abstracts that are selected for presentation at the RIO-SET Expo will be notified by the 4th of April and will be expected to submit full papers by the 21st of July 2017. In particular, we invite them to address sub-themes  relating to how research and innovation promote sustainable development,” it said.

Guidelines for the papers are that, “The abstract length should be between150 and 200 words. A maximum of five key words should accompany the abstract. Papers musty be between 4 000 and 6000 words including tables, figures and references.

“Papers must be on double spaced A4 paper, tables, graphs, pictures must be camera ready. All copyrighted material must be cleared by the author. References and notes must be cite in the paper as author and date, full reference to be given at the end of the paper.

“Only those authors who sub,it full papers by the given deadline will be allowed to be present at the Expo. After  the presentations at the Expo , all papers will first be subjected to anti-plagiarism software before being sent for peer review.

“Papers that make it will be published in the Journal of Zimbabwe Studies:Science, Technology and Health and Journal of  Zimbabwe Studies : Arts Humanieites, Education.
