Powertel dominates ZIA Investors Awards

ZESA holdings telecommunications unit Powertel ruled the roost at the Zimbabwe Investment Awards 2016 as it grabbed two awards at event held last Friday at Cresta Sango Lodge.
Powertel collected the most coveted award, The Chairman’s Investor of the Year Award along with the best ICT sector award award.

Speaking after the event, Powertel’s Marketing expert and Acting Commercial Director Prosper Mutswiri underscored his company’s commitment to innovation, customer driven systems and nationalistic superfluous products that will address the needs of the Zimbabwean customer.

“We feel honoured by the crown bestowed on us by our customers which have translated into the two top awards. We assure to our customers that these awards remain dedicated to them and we will endeavour to continue creating superfluous products that will address their timely needs” he said.

NetOne took the second position while TelOne was the second runner up in the ICT category.

“We are very thrilled at NetOne to have this award. Yes we didnt come first but we came second but we still appreciate it. All it confirms is that the world is appreciating what Netone is doing.
“We are turning 20 this year, we have done so much over the years. We started with only 500 subscribers we are on over 5 million and a lot has been taking place within our organisation employing a lot of people as we put our base stations doing so much to the vendors selling our airtime…,” he said.
Steward Bank also also won the Financial sector Banking sub sector award.
ZIA chairperson Dr Nigel Chanakira expressed satisfaction at the fourth edition of the awards.
He indicated that the awards were to celebrate the successes of company’s inline with job investments, growth investments and innovations that will translate to the above objectives thereby contributing significantly to the economic development of the nation.
He also touched on the various projects covering all sectors from manufacturing, construction, telecommunications that the authority was working on towards contributing the nation’s economic development

ZIA CEO Richard Mbaiwa gave a snapshot of the ZIA awards in that they are to celebrate the achievements in many ways than one.

“The Zimbabwe Investor Awards are unique business investment awards that recognize and reward the contributions of investors across wide-ranging sectors and disciplines operating in Zimbabwe. These awards attract the market leaders from across the industry and salute their achievements,” he said
