Powertel Powers Up World Post Day Celebrations in Rushinga


Internet Service Provider Powertel has connected the Rushinga community for the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe.’s World Post Day celebrations.

This comes after Powertel won a tender floated by Potraz to connect the area.

The remote connection enabled through Powertel’ s VSAT services was set up at the community centre at Rushing Post Office.


The connection speed of 4Mbps enabled users to watch live videos without any glitches.

“The connectivity was given to Powertel due to its experience in corporate connectivity solutions and experience in Vsat services having had connected a considerable number of Vsat services in Zimbabwe.

The connectivity by Powertel working through Potraz was a welcome development by the local Rushinga people as they requested the company to consider other local sites such as schools.
The event was graced by the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Hon Supra Mandiwanzira, Potraz executives and management as well top officials from telecoms and postal companies. Powertel connects Potraz Rushinga community

World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern.  This year’s celebrations were pushed to October 26, as the World Post Day fell on a Sunday.

It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Posts in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
