On Saturday morning grief engulfed Postal and Telecommunications Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) Director General Gift Machengete’s family following the sudden death of his son.Takudzwa Machengete,28, who was robbed of a chance to blossom on the family tree due to spinal cord complications.
Today family, friends and work mates gathered at Glen forest cemetery to pay their last respect and console the Machengete family as they bury their son.
Tafadzwa machengete was battling with complications of the spinal chord which took him down.
Dr Machengete assumed the position of Director General for telecommunications regulator, Potraz, in October 2016 replacing Cecilia Nyamutswa.
A government employee and career diplomat,his work experience can be traced back to the mid 1980s when he joined the President’s Department as a Research Economist. An appointment to China as the Economic Councilor at the Zimbabwe Embassy in China was next. In 1998 he moved back to the President’s Department where he headed the Coordination and Secretariat department .On the diplomatic scene ,from 2001 to 2002 he assumed the role of the Deputy High Commissioner at the Zimbabwe Embassy in Malaysia. Between 2002 to 2005 he served as the Acting High Commissioner at the Zimbabwe High Commission and the Deputy Ambassador at the Zimbabwe Embassy in that same country.Prior to joining Potraz,he was the Director of Administration and Finance in the President’s Office.
Mourners are gathered at 18 David Road,Athlone in Greendale.
