Nimbuzz notches up ‘16 million users’ in Africa

Some 16 million people in Africa actively use mobile messaging service Nimbuzz, according to its makers.

Netherlands headquartered Nimbuzz is an instant messaging service application for mobile phones and is supported by more than 500 different mobile devices including BlackBerry 10, Android, iOS, Symbian, and Windows Phone.

The application is being used by 150 million users worldwide, says Nimbuzz.

Telecompaper.com reports that last year Nimbuzz had 100 million users, which had increased from 50 million in August 2011.

According to the Telecompaper.com report, Nimbuzz is a strong competitor for Facebook Messenger in Asia, and India. In India, 25 million people use Nimbuzz.

Nimbuzz has a high take-up in Asia overall with 78 million users, ten million users in Europe and nine million in the US.
