The newly appointed ICT Minister and Makoni-West legislator, Hon Jenfan Muswere was today officially sworn in by the president at a ceremony held at the statehouse.
On Friday President Emmerson Mnangagwa reshuffled his cabinet which saw the appointment of Jenfan Muswere as the new minister of ICT, Postal and Courier services.
Muswere was previously deputy minister of the same ministry under Kazembe Kazembe who is now the minister of Home Affairs.
For the past 1 year 2months, the minister has been deputy, but also running most of government business on behalf of the minister in his absence. This undoubtedly makes him ready and tuned for the task that is ahead of him.
Muswere has a history of human resources and business administration among other qualifications and he is currently studying for a D-Phil-Development Studies – ICT.
However, some people have questioned his capacity and potential since he does not have any strong technological background.
However such sentiments can only be misinformed given the fact that well-perfoming minister last Tendai Biti who ran the finance ministry perfectly well was purely legal personnel, with no financial history.
Running the ministry does not necessarily need a technocrat but a committed cadre, whom we have already seen and approved as one young hardworking man who is committed to seeing the growth and development of ICTS.
He simply needs more qualified people under him and 80% of the job has already been done by Kazembe Kazembe who has already appointed new board members across all State-Owned Enterprises.
Driving policy and creating a conducive environment will be his major task and we shall judge him by that more than what he passed during an academic test
