The minister of ICT,Postal and Courier Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere has commissioned the Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring System (TTMS) at the POTRAZ headquarters in Harare today.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Mt Pleasant ,Dr Muswere said that the TTMS system would ensure that POTRAZ is a step forward in making it’s oversight role more robust and efficient.
“TTMS will assist in combatting telecommunication fraud perpetrated through traffic refiling and the use of grey routes or illegal gateways in the conveyancing of international traffic,”Dr Muswere said.
The TTMS is a revenue assurance system that allows POTRAZ to independently monitor national and international telecom traffic, helping to combat network fraud and enforce billing integrity across all communication networks in the country.
Dr Muswere dismissed claims that the TTMS system would be used to spy on users and said that the system was entirely focused on sector statistics and did not have the capability to spy on voice calls.
“Contrary to public perception, the TTMS does not have snooping or eavesdropping capabilities,”he added
The establishment and execution of the Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring System (TTMS) in Zimbabwe is part of POTRAZ’s strategic agenda to adopt new technologies in the regulatory framework of the country
