Zimbabwe’s mobile telecommunications firms revenues nearly hit the $200 million mark in the fourth quarter of 2016 due to the insatiable appetite for data by customers among other reasons.
The mobile network operators cumulatively had $199,2 million in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared to the previous quarter figure of $194, 5 million showing a 2, 4 percent rise.
According the Abridged Fourth Quarter Report released by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, Econet Wireless was the only operator to have a rise in revenue.
“Total mobile revenues increased by 2.4% to record $199.2 million from $194.5 million recorded in the previous quarter. However, Econet was the only operator to register an increase in revenues,” said the regulator.
From the beginning of 2016, there was a significant growth of mobile revenue for the sector collectively registered a 31, 5 percent rise.
