Minister Muswere Calls For Responsible Usage of ICT To Fight GBV


The Minister of ICT,Courier and Postal Services Dr Jenfan Muswere has called on the nation to desist from using ICTs to perpetrate gender based violence.

In his statement on the 16 days of activism against gender based violence,Dr Muswere called on the nation to use ICTs as a tool to fight and end gender based violence.

“To this end, I encourage all of us to use ICTs to “Orange the World”, by documenting and exposing gender-based violence through ICTs,”he said.

The world has been marking the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence under the theme Orange the World: End violence against women now!

Women have been on the receiving with many falling victim to revenge porn and the minister said that the country had a new piece of legislation that deals with revenge porn.

“As a countermeasure the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services has crafted the Cyber and Data Protection Bill, a compendium of laws that will aid the fight against gender-based violence by criminalizing acts such as revenge pornography,”he added.
