Leading global computer software giant Microsoft Corporation has brought the Imagine Cup competition to Zimbabwe.The competition held annually is sponsored and hosted by Microsoft Corp brings together young technologists worldwide to help resolve some of the world’s toughest challenges.

Imagine Cup has attracted over 500 000 competitors around for a cool US$1 million prize money which comprises of travel, cash prizes, hands-on mentorship opportunities and a private audience with Microsoft Founder and Technology Advisor Bill Gates.
In an interview yesterday, Microsoft East and Southern Africa Developer and platform leader Mr Paul Roy Owino said they started the competition at the University of Zimbabwe yesterday.
“We launched the cup at the UZ and this competition will be spread all over other universities and colleges in Zimbabwe.
“Other schools are said to be writing examinations hence we could not travel there,” he said.
Mr Owino also said the cup is meant to draw out Zimbabwe’s best software developers to run up for the prize money.This cup competition comes in the wake of the announcement made by Zimbabwe Revenue Authority commissioner general Gershem Pasi that the software manufacturer want to set up a Zimbabwean office to improve efficiency as well as countering software piracy.
