The Three day, Zim-Afro Medical Expo will be closing its doors today at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), the event has been running for the past three years and today so much significant changes can be noticed .

Of particular interest is the number of technology based Exhibitors on the Expo, from internet service providers to software developers, all showing their products which have been adapted for the medical health service delivery improvement. The expo was officially opened by the Hon  Minister of Health and Child welfare Dr David Parirenyatwa.

The expo whose theme is “You are the greatest stakeholder of your Health”, went live on the third of December and will be running until the fifth. This is an initiative which aims to bring all stakeholders of the medical field together to come up with innovative ideas for the rehabilitation of the general health service delivery sector.

In his speech the Minister challenged the private sector (private medical health players) to engage the Government on a Private-Public-Partnerships (triple Ps) which will foster a win-win situation for both parties while at the same time improving on the health service delivery. He bemoaned how much the Government has suffered hugely due to sanctions as it cannot secure funds for some crucial medical equipment which ought to replace the old-wornout-outdated Stone Age equipment currently housing our hospitals.

Also of interest was seeing, the Minister  being accompanied by the Hon Adviser of Health in the President’s Office (his former boss) Dr Timothy Stamps, who also echoed the same language by saying “we can’t go alone..we have to engage all players in the medical sector” Dr Stamps also established The “Timothy.J.Stamps Trust on Chronic Conditions”

Some outstanding innovative medical solution were being exhibited by players like  Audio max (phonak hearing aid technology), Celestial healthcare with (State-of–the-Art medical examining equipment), Westchase consultants a.k.a ICT academy with (Microsoft Dynamic NAV hospital Management System), Binary health care solutions had  (Binary Trailblazer system,Capsure cloud system,eRad Ris and eRad Pacs system) to mention a few.
The Minister rounded his speech by reemphasizing that the Government is ready and open to welcome any private medical health player into a partnership but was quick to mention that it has to be a win-win situation not a cannibalistic one were one party fleeces the other. Will medical home grown solution push us beyond the 2015 millennium Developmental goals? With advancement in the ICT sector it’s a world of possibilities.
