ICT Ministry To Conduct Public consultation on the cyber bill

Ministry of ICT and courier services in conjunction with thematic committee on peace and security portfolio committee, Portfolio Committee on ICT, Postal & Courier Services and media information and broadcasting services will jointly hold a public consultation on the new cyber security and data protection bill from 6 to 10 July 2020.

The hearing is to be held on 12 different cities around the country including Bulawayo, Gwanda, Kwekwe, Chegutu, Chinhoyi, Bindura, Norton Masvingo, Berchnough, Mutare, Marondera and shut down in Harare. Zoom meeting as well will be held as efforts to maintain social distancing amid the COVID19 pandemic.

The Cybersecurity and Data Protection Bill was published, on 15 May 2020, with the Government Gazette. In particular, the Bill, among other things, introduces general rules on the processing of personal data and outlines the duties of data controllers and processors.
