Government has finished setting up the necessary framework for the Zimbabwe ICT Young Innovators Fund as it intends to launch it anytime soon, a senior official said.
Addressing business people in Harare on Wednesday at the Zimbabwe Innovators Showcase-Harare Chapter, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Harare Metropolitan Province Hon. Miriam Chikukwa representing Acting Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Dr Chris Mushowe said Government finalised putting together modalities for the fund of US$25 million to be disbursed to young ICT innovators.
Work on putting the necessary framework for the fund has been completed and the Ministry of ICT will soon be announcing a launch date for the fund, we hope to take place within the next few days,” she said.

The Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon.Supa Mandiwanzira, recently announced that the government would be supporting ICT innovators and developers through a $25 million fund. A total of $2.5 million is ready for disbursement once the program is launched and many are set to benefit from the government’s national program.
Minister Chikukwa added that this package will boost technocrats encouraging them to fly the Zimbabwean flag high.
“This package comes with new incentives, new drivers to ensure that Zimbabwean start-ups, with new business ideas will be better able to find the capital that gets them started,” she said.
She added that this fund will go a long way in supporting the ICT innovators.
The second leg of the showcase saw at least 80 innovators showcase their innovations compared to 42 start-ups that pitched in Bulawayo.
