Facebook now Translates Shona

Facebook has added one of Zimbabwe’s official languages Shona to its translation app as a way of incorporating as many languages as possible.

This might come as good news to many Zimbabweans who longed to see their native language on the platform.

The translator only knows some few Shona words such as Mangwanani akanaka which is Good morning in English and Mhuri (family).

It seems Facebook gets most of the Shona words and terms through crowd-sourcing as it conducts a weekly leaderboard for Zimbabweans who contribute the words.

There is a Facebook translator group which polyglots can join.
