ED suspends ZESA Board


The President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa on Thursday suspended the executive chairman and the entire Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) board.

This was revealed by the chief Secretary in the office of the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda.

He said, ” His Excellency the President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has, in terms of section 16 (1) (a) read together with section 16 (1) (d) of the public entities Corporate Governance Act, suspended the executive chairman of the ZESA Holdings, Dr Sydney Gata and the entire Board Members with immediate effect.”

The move is meant to allow Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission to carry out a thorough investigations into the allegations leveled against the executive chairman by the line minister Advocate Fortune Chasi and any other corrupt activities bedevilling ZESA board members and the electricity sector as a whole.

Meanwhile, ZACC has been given four weeks to complete the investigations as well as tabling its report on the findings.
