Econet Wireless Zimbabwe today announced through a press release that they have now activated Facebook browsing for any kind of phone, especially the feature phones or colloquially (mbudzi ), even those that cant access the internet .

Econet has availed the solution through a (Unstructured Supplimentary Service Data) USSD, system which is simply activated by dialling a certain network service number

The service does not necessarily require the phone to access the internet by merely dialling *325# USSD, one can then select a certain package that he so wishes to subscribe to.

The entry package is modelled at only 10cents as a daily subscription, then the weekly subscriptions costs 50cents, while the monthly subscriptions are peged at $1.50.

This move may be received with great excitement by those who are still using the feature phones as they have finally accorded the opportunity to join the world`s biggest social network.

According to Econet, “Customers can update their statuses, post on friends walls, view and send friend requests and also can chat with friends”
