Ecocash subscribers are hitting a brick wall when trying to top up airtime using the service. Dialing the *151# USSD code then going on to the airtime option led customers to a dead end.
Customers have been complaining about this hiccup bringing the matter to Ecocash’s attention. In a broadcast message sent to calm its customers titled IMPORTANT UPDATE, Ecocash apologised for this mishap reassuring a fix on the issue.
“EcoCash airtime services are currently unavailable and we will advise once service has been restored. All the other EcoCash services are working well. Our apologies for the inconvenience,” said the globally recognised mobile money platform.
Buying airtime using Ecocash is popular among many in the ‘cashless society’, but this blow could have hit them hard.
According to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, Ecocash’s subscriber base slipped by a 1, 7 percent margin in the period Q1 2017 to 3, 189million from 3, 245 million.
