Bethel Communications trading as Astro Mobile has been shortlisted in the run up for the African Awards for Entrepreneurship 2016.
The company was nominated in the Outstanding Mature Business Award category. It goes head to head with mi-Fone from South Africa and TA Telecom from Egypt.
In the citation, the event organizers African Leadership Network said, “Astro Mobile is a large ecommerce company and a mobile and electronic solutions provider with branches across Africa.
“Astro Mobile focuses on the convergence of mobility and software development, and is also the leader in the provision of relevant and cost effective mobile solutions in Africa. Astro Mobile conducts research and development to create tailored mobile devices for specific target markets.
“Along with bespoke mobile devices, each Astro mobile device is equipped with innovative applications, dedicated to the needs of the respective target market.”
Astro shrugged off stiff competition from renowned companies from Kenya, Egypt, South Africa and Ghana to scoop the prestigious award.
The Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship (AAE) was established in 2007 to recognize business leaders who demonstrate innovation, profitability and business excellence while serving as role models to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Since its inception, AAE has attracted more than 7,000 applications from outstanding African businesses and awarded prizes of nearly USD $2 million to over 35 leading African companies.
