THE unemployment rate in Zimbabwe has reached alarming proportions as evidenced by scores of youths who have flooded the streets of Harare and other towns in a bid make a living out of various vending activities.
A walk along pavements in Harare is usually greeted by young men who sell gadgets from small phone, chargers and laptops. Over the past few years, a new quick money making venture, “App Installation” has taken over the streets and youths are making a killing out of it.
Despite the technology craze that has hit the world and taken even Zimbabwe by storm some ordinary people out there do not really know how to go about the business of installing applications, updating them and fixing challenges associated with gadgets.

Something like this would sound very much simple to a techie out there but it would be much confusing for the ordinary person hence the young techies out there have seized this opportunity and are getting money from simply installing applications in someones cell phone.
They charge different amounts based on the type of service you want. For WhatsApp installation, one must be prepared to part with US$$2 and the loading of songs into someone’s phone ranging from $1 for at least 20 songs of your choice.
On a good day, one may serve 6-8 people as well as make something like $12-$16 in a day.
Tawanda who does app installation at the Zimpost Mall said ”I have the knowledge of the things that many people don’t know so i decided to help those other people with the very simple things that they do not understand but at the end of the day make money out of it”.
