Ecosure in conjunction with Hitbay joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Toilet Day by donating portable toilets in Mupedzanhamo and around the central business district.
World Toilet Day is an annual global event organized by UN-Water to raise awareness of the crucial role that sanitation plays in reducing disease and creating healthier communities.
Ecosure said the portable toilets will help improve improving hygiene and health around the city.
World Toilet Day aims to tackle the global sanitation crisis and help achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which promises sanitation for all by 2030.
According to the United Nations, the theme for World Toilet Day 2019 is ‘Leaving No One Behind’ and currently 4.2 billion people worldwide live without safely managed sanitation, which is more than half the global population. Of the 4.2 billion, 673 million still practice open defecation and three billion lack basic handwashing facilities.
As per the reports, ”Only 40 out of 152 countries are on track to achieve ‘nearly universal’ basic sanitation by 2030.” UN has argued that proper sanitation is a step toward poverty eradication and this why they have invested tremendous efforts in incorporating all countries around the world to join the movement towards better sanitation.
