Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Honorable Kazembe Kazembe says the government seeks to spur economic growth by 2030 through continuous development of ICT infrastructure.
The minister added, that catching up with the rest of the world technologically remains the number one priority for Zimbabwe’s ICT sector.
Speaking to the newly appointed Ambassadors designates to Indonesia, UAE, Algeria, Kenya and Uganda today, Minister Kazembe said that infrastructure development is the foundation for connectivity.
“For smart cities to be a reality, we need to have basic infrastructure which will ensure internet connectivity for all and no one will be left behind,”
This means we need optic fibre and base stations throughout the country and once everyone is connected then we can talk about application and accessibility, ” he said.
According to Kazembe, the Ambassadors will maintain and promote bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and their designated countries.
He added, ICT industry growth is an effective means to achieve related development objectives, including foreign direct investment, and provision for technology transfer, which will satisfy local market demand for ICTs.
