NetOne and City of Harare today unveiled a newly refurbished Sunningdale Community Hall as part of their broader partnership aimed at laboring towards the city attaining world-class city status by 2025.
In line with its Corporate Social Investment pillars,NetOne has been keen on firmly impacting the lives of Sunningdale community through a facelift of their community hall.The hall houses over 75 children who attend pre-school there and more than 2600 people who frequent the hall for various activities on a monthly basis.
The refurbishment done came in the form of painting the whole complex giving it a new look. However, there were some grey areas such as the floor that NetOne promised to also give a complete makeover.
In a speech read on his behalf by Marketing Director Dr Eldrette Shereni ,NetOne CEO Mr Lazarus Muchenje expressed his excitement on unveiling a new look hall.
“This place now resonates with who we are as a community and NetOne is greatly honoured to have this new, refreshing and trendy new look to this community hall.” he said
In addition, he strengthened NetOne’s position with regards to more assistance to the city council.
“As NetOne ,we will walk the journey with the council as we are citizens of this town.Through a broader partnership with the City of Harare, we will be assisting the city by attending to some critical needs on council properties.What we are witnessing today is a result of that partnership.” said Mr Muchenje.
The youth of Sunningdale who use the hall as their offices happen to be the beneficiaries and were not left out as some of them were deliberately contracted to do some graphic designs in a way giving them a sense of ownership.
Speaking at the event,His Worship the Mayor of Harare,Councillor Herbet Gomba commended the great work done by NetOne under its Smart Cities banner.
“The desire by NetOne to positively influence . people’s lives and change their stories is unquestionable.As the City of Harare, we applaud you for your exceptional Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.”he said
Furthermore, the Mayor expressed his gratitude to NetOne who have been a good partner by assisting the council on many occasions.
“We have been recipients of your goodwill in the past and i recall how you came to the aid of our Edith Opperman Maternity Clinic by providing some blankets and wheelchairs late last year.Our vision is to become a world- class city by 2025 and as the city, alone we cannot realize this vision, thus such a partnership as this are key to the attainment of our vision” said Mayor Gomba.
The Mayor then thanked NetOne on behalf of the City of Harare and residents of Sunningdale and surrounding areas.Many people from other districts will also benefit from the facilities.
“I want to thank you NetOne for this gesture .We humbly accept and acknowledge the good works done at this hall.” he said
The Mayor and NetOne CEO urged the community of Sunningdale to be responsible and continue looking after the hall and maintain the new standards.
NetOne has exhibited unwavering support to the journey that the council undertook to restore the city to its former glory.Under the Smart Cities banner all community halls within Harare will be given a facelift. Work on sprucing up Islands along Samora Machel Avenue has already begun.
NetOne Marketing Director Eldrette Shereni took the opportunity to donate 1000 exercise books to Sunningdale 2 Primary School on behalf of NetOne showing that the development of children is closer to the company’s heart.
