The installation of FM transmitters at Rukotso in Nyanga has been completed. This is in line with the digitalisation program.
The completion of new FM transmitters at Rukotso in Nyanga is expected to improve signal strength, giving listeners in the tourist destination and others as far as Marondera improved coverage.
Transmedia Manicaland engineer, Engineer Raison Jiriyengwa said that the installation of FM transmitters will result in the improvement of signal strength in surrounding areas.
“The completion of the project has seen areas such as Rusape, Macheke, areas around Mutoko and Nyamaropa having a better signal,” said Eng Jiriyengwa.
Engineer Jiriyengwa also noted that the installation of the radio transmitter and antenna system has been necessitated by the need to replace aged equipment with that which has a greater reach as well as better signal strength
The completion of the transmitter is part of the FM revamping exercise being carried out by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe, Transmedia and the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation which has seen new FM radio transmitters and antenna systems being installed.
In February, ZBC CEO, Mr Patrick Mavhura noted the digitalisation process as too slow with the state broadcaster ready to roll out six new television stations once the digitalization process is complete.
As part of the digitalisation program, ZBC will introduce new channels geared towards improving quality and content from local producers in Zimbabwe.
The digitalisation program started in 2015, and there is still a lot to be done to complete the process.
