Contrary to popular reports of global electronic devices giant Samsung Electronics wanting to leave Zimbabwe, the company never had those intentions, it has emerged.
The company was reportedly considering to leave the country because of foreign currency shortages. Speaking to TechnoMag yesterday, Samsung’s local country manager Gavin Clare said that they were not going to leave Zimbabwe but the organization was going through a restructuring exercise which did not spare Zimbabwe.
“It was just a restructuring exercise that happened which resulted in Zimbabwe having to report to South Africa. In the past other Sadc countries used to report to us. But that has since changed,” said
Samsung Electronics in 2015 announced the official opening of an assembly plant in Zimbabwe.
SamZim, a local Zimbabwean partner of Samsung Electronics established a manufacturing, sales and service outlet as well as an Engineering Academy at the Zimpost Complex along Airport Road.
