Following a four-year dry spell, Zimbabwean mobile operators broke the jinx collectively generating a turnover of about $850 million in the year 2017.
Being the first time in four years, mobile operators revenues shot up.
“It is worthy to note that this is the first year in four years to record an increase in mobile revenues,” Potraz said in its abridged 2017 sector performance report.
This represented a 17, 6 percent increase compared to the previous year’s figure of $722, 934, 178.
“As shown above, the total revenue generated by the mobile operators increased by 17.6% to record $849,880,489 in 2017 from $722,934,718 recorded in 2016,” said the regulator.
On the flipside, operating costs were up a marginal 4, 7 percent while investment was 46, 3 percent lower.
“Investment declined by 46.3% to record $100.9 million from $187.7 million invested in 2016,” Potraz said.
